The aim of this study is to see if the type of anaesthetic technique used to numb the arm during surgery affects whether or not a fistula fails. You will be allocated at random (like tossing a coin) to receive one of two types of anaesthetic: local or regional ('block').

Neither of these techniques are new and both are commonly performed for fistula surgery. Following discharge, two additional study visits will be scheduled to check on your fistula (at three months and 12 months after your operation).
