Welcome to the Oxford Kidney Unit

The Oxford Kidney Unit provides a regional renal service for Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Swindon.

The unit has inpatient, outpatient and day case facilities with treatment ranging from diagnosis and management of kidney disease to provision of dialysis therapies once kidneys have failed.

The main function of the unit is to provide dialysis treatment for patients with end-stage renal failure.

The unit also supervises home haemodialysis treatment for about 30 patients

Haemodialysis is also provided in satellite units at:

• Banbury (Horton General Hospital)
• High Wycombe
• Milton Keynes
• Aylesbury (Stoke Mandeville Hospital)
• Swindon (Great Western Hospital)

There is a Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) service providing Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) and Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) for approximately 100 patients. This is organised from the PD Unit adjacent to the Renal Annexe at the Churchill Hospital.

PD services are also provided in High Wycombe, Milton Keynes and Swindon.

Newly referred patients and dialysis patients requiring inpatient care are admitted to the Renal Ward.
