Kate Grebenik

Dr Andrew Johnson MBBS DPhil FRCA FFICM

Consultant in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care and Anaesthesia

Dr Johnson qualified from University College London in 2000. Since then he has undergone training in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care medicine in Bristol and Oxford and completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive care at Harefield Hospital, London.

He took time out of training to undertake research into metabolic mechanisms of heart failure and was awarded a DPhil from the University of Oxford.

Dr Andrew Johnson

Dr Maurizio Renna FRCA

Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia

After completing medical school cum laude and anaesthetic/intensive care residency in his native Italy, from 1992 to 1994 Dr Renna received higher specialist training in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at the Royal Brompton Hospital, and in neuroanaesthesia and Neuro ICU at Queen's Square Hospital, London,UK.

In 1995 he was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist at Ealing Hospital, London (where he acted as Tutor of the Royal College of Anaesthetists for several years) ,followed in 2002 by a position as an Attending Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist at Washington University St Louis, Missouri, USA. During this time he was awarded the Certificate of special competence in intraoperative Transoesophageal Echocardiography by the American Board of Echocardiography.

In 2003 he returned to the UK as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London until 2015, when he moved to Oxford University Hospitals again as a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia.

Dr Renna's research interests have been focused towards EEG monitoring of brain function during anaesthesia as well as management of anticoagulation during cardiac surgery. He has extensively published on the above topics and delivered several presentations at national and international meetings.

Dr Maurizio Renna

Dr Elizabeth Russell MBChB FRCA

Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia

Dr Elizabeth Russell has extensive experience within cardiothoracic anaesthesia and perioperative echocardiography, having worked in four major UK Cardiothoracic units.

She qualified as a certified ECMO Specialist in 2014 following training at Glenfield Hospital. She then went on to work at Papworth Hospital as a Locum Consultant covering ECMO retrievals and cardiac surgery theatre anaesthesia.

She was appointed as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist in Oxford in 2015.

She is Clinical Lead for Cardiothoracic Preoperative Assessment and an Educational Supervisor within the Oxford Deanery.

Dr Elizabeth Russell

Dr Mohammed Salem MBChB FRCA

Consultant and Lead Clinician, Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care

With over 16 years of experience, Dr Mohammed Salem is the Director of the Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care and CESR Fellowship programmes. He holds many awards and distinctions.

As he particularly enjoys getting to know his patients, he is involved in bio-design and medical innovation aiming to ease the suffering of patients.

He is a member of the European society of Anaesthesia, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Jordanian Pain Society, Jordanian Anaesthesia Society and Jordanian Medical Association.
