He donated this series of twelve images in gratitude to the clinicians who cared for him, choosing works that could be seen and enjoyed by staff, patients and visitors.
The images grew out of John's walks in Harcourt Arboretum. He found the landscape restorative while receiving treatment for progressive pulmonary fibrosis, and thought of the trees as the lungs of the earth.
The artworks are now installed across the Respiratory Outpatient Department at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford.
