Children’s writer and illustrator Mini Grey has created a welcoming and playful programme of artwork for young patients who often feel nervous entering the imaging rooms. Her work includes woodland themed artwork for the corridor and recovery room, as well as a phased programme of immersive artwork for the three imaging rooms.
Each imaging room has its own theme - Underwater for Ultrasound, The Jungle for Fluoroscopy, and Outer Space for X-Ray. Young patients can borrow a special torch to light up fluorescent elements of the designs, encouraging them to enter the spaces.
The artwork is designed to appeal to all age groups. Younger patients can follow a group of mouse explorers as they dive underwater, take an air balloon into the jungle, and explore outer space in their own spaceship.

"I just wanted to emphasise again how much better the room appearances are now that the decorations are all completed.
"We have had so many compliments from parents who have had their children scanned in the room in the past, and then again recently, about how wonderful it looks and how different it seems.
"The difference has been particularly noticeable to us when scanning the tricky age group of toddlers who are often reluctant to be scanned by strangers, but when given the distraction of being able to shine the UV torch on the different pictures on the wall and highlight the jellyfish and fish there, have enabled us to obtain much better quality scans than we would have anticipated."
