Arrhythmia Nurses

The Arrhythmia Nurses provide information and support to a variety of patients with heart rhythm problems within Oxfordshire and surrounding areas.

There is close collaboration with the consultant electrophysiologists, cardiac physiologists and primary care colleagues, including GPs.

Services include:

  • nurse-led outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients with a range of arrhythmias including supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and atrial flutter
  • telephone consultations where appropriate to reduce unecessary journeys
  • provision of a comprehensive pre-assessment service for patients undergoing catheter ablation; (a thin wire, guided under local anaesthetic through a vein into the heart, uses an electric current to record and correct abnormal activity)
  • access to office hours telephone/email advice service
  • education and support.
