We cover all aspects of adult cardiothoracic surgery at Oxford University Hospitals.
These include:

We are actively engaged in clinical research, audit and teaching.
The department takes patients from:
- Oxfordshire
- Northamptonshire
- Gloucestershire
- Buckinghamshire
- Berkshire
- Wiltshire
- Worcestershire
- Warwickshire.
Patients are referred directly to the centre from within the John Radcliffe Hospital, and also from:
- Horton General Hospital
- Northampton General Hospital
- Gloucester Royal Hospital
- Cheltenham General Hospital
- Milton Keynes Hospital
- Stoke Mandeville Hospital
- Wycombe General Hospital
- Great Western Hospital, Swindon.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)
Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) aims to improve patients' outcomes and care.
Through ERAS we ensure patients are as well as possible before their surgery, enhance their experience, and reduce complications and length of hospital stay.
Patients benefit from a personalised physiotherapy assessment, classes and preadmission counselling, including healthy lifestyle advice.
Invasive procedures are kept to a minimum, and we try to perform surgery using a keyhole approach whenever possible.
Most of our patients can expect to go home safely two to three days after their surgery.
Patients do need to actively participate in the ERAS programme; we encourage them to start to mobilise on the same day as their surgery, asking for help and/or painkillers if needed.
Early mobilisation, deep breathing and coughing all play a crucial role in preventing complications from surgery, such as chest infections and blood clots.
