Places to give birth

Information alert box Wantage Maternity Unit and Cotswold Birth Centre currently closed for births

Wantage Maternity Unit and Cotswold Birth Centre (Chipping Norton) are not currently open for births. This is due to staffing problems that we are working hard to resolve. We are still open for all other antenatal and postnatal appointments. All routine antenatal appointments will now be provided by your midwife. For those who have long-standing medical conditions or need urgent advice, GP appointments will still be available.

All other low risk birth services across Oxfordshire will remain unchanged. You have Horton Midwifery-led Unit in the north of the county and Wallingford Maternity and Birthing Centre in the south. These run alongside community services provided by the Oxford Spires Midwifery-led Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. At present, the Home Birth service will be maintained. The John Radcliffe Women's Centre Delivery Suite is also open as usual.

If you have any queries, please call your community midwife. Out of hours, please call Wallingford Maternity and Birthing Centre or Oxford Spires Midwifery-led Unit.

We are very sorry for this temporary reduction in service. Thank you for your understanding.

We have made the difficult decision to cancel all antenatal classes, tours of midwifery-led units and 'meet the midwives' events until further notice.

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment this may cause.
