These may be held at the John Radcliffe Hospital or the Horton General Hospital.

If you are unable to attend a hospital appointment, please inform that clinic.

24-hours a day, seven days a week

Tel: 01865 220221
We cannot answer non-urgent general enquiries, for example about scans or appointments.

However, please contact us if you are worried about yourself, your baby, or your recovery after birth, for example if you experience:

  • reduced baby's movements

  • vaginal bleeding

  • abdominal pain

  • waters breaking

  • concerns about labour

  • high blood pressure symptoms

  • severe headaches

  • visual disturbances

  • shortness of breath

  • concerns after birth

  • wound concerns

  • feeling unwell

  • any situation where you feel something is not right.

We are able to give advice over the phone and would always rather hear from you than have you stay at home worried.

Please telephone us before attending. This helps us prepare for your arrival and ensure you come to the most appropriate area.

However, you do not need permission to attend MAU, so if you are concerned, please come in for assessment even if you have not called first.

Horton

Midwife Assessment Clinic (MAC)

Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm

Tel: 01295 229779

The Midwife Assessment Clinic is staffed by a midwife and maternity support worker.

Appointments are available if you are over 16 weeks' pregnant with concerns or questions about your own, or your baby's, wellbeing.

If obstetric care, or a doctor's review, is required, we may advise you to be seen at the John Radcliffe Hospital Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU) in Oxford.

Antenatal Clinic

Consultant-led antenatal clinics are run from the Horton on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Your GP or community midwife may recommend an appointment with one of our obstetric consultants.

Even if you are planning to have your baby at the John Radcliffe Hospital we can still see you at the Horton Antenatal Clinic unless specialist care is required, for example through the Maternal Medicine Unit or Fetal Medicine Unit.

Your midwife or GP may offer you an appointment at other Horton clinics:

  • Lifestyle Clinic

  • Anaesthetic Clinic

  • Smoking Cessation Clinic

  • Perinatal Mental Health Clinic.

Ultrasound

Scans provided at the Horton Midwifery-led Unit include:

  • routine nuchal / dating scans

  • fetal anatomy scans

  • 36 week growth scans.

Other scans may be recommended depending on individual circumstances.
