Neuroimmunology

Extensive specialist Neuroimmunology testing has been provided in Oxford for many years.

The service is run by the Immunology Laboratory at the Churchill Hospital in collaboration with the Neuroimmunology research group at the University of Oxford.

Neuroimmunology tests

To request a test, please complete our Neuroimmunology Request Card (Word).

  • Acetylcholine Receptor (anti-AChR; RIA) IgG
  • Muscle Specific Kinase (MuSK) (anti-MuSK; RIA) IgG
  • Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) (anti GAD; ELISA) IgG
  • Voltage gated Ca2+ channel (anti-VGCC; RIA) IgG
  • Voltage gated K+ channel (anti-VGKC; RIA) IgG
  • Ganglioside GM1 (anti-GM1; ELISA) IgG and IgM (combined)
  • Ganglioside GQ1b (anti-GQ1b; ELISA) IgG and IgM (combined)
  • Markers for Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes Hu, Yo, Ri, Ma, Amphiphysin, CRMP5/CV2, Tr
  • Myelin associated glycoprotein (MAG) (anti-MAG; ELISA) IgM
  • Serum α3 ganglionic receptor, by RIA
  • CSF Orexin levels
  • Serum antibodies to clustered AChR and MuSK on cell lines (for detection of low affinity antibodies)
  • Aquaporin-4 antibodies (NMO antibodies)
  • LGI1 antibodies CASPR2 antibodies
  • NMDA receptor antibodies
