Our wards
Your child may stay or visit a number of our wards before and after their surgery.
Children's Day Care Ward
Children's Day Care Ward provides care for children admitted for day care operations, investigations, such as MRI or CT scans, and to be assessed by a doctor.
Some procedures do not require a bed, and children and families can wait in the play room to be seen.
If a child is allocated a bed, their parents/carers can stay with them, and there is a chair next to the bedside. The ward provides bedding, but feel free to bring your child's own bedding to make their stay more comfortable. They may also want to bring in a favourite toy or blanket.
The staff can order food for your child if needed; this will either be a sandwich or a small hot meal from the select menu.
If your child is on formula milk please bring in bottles and an unopened tin of formula: sterilisers are provided on the ward. Cow's milk is also provided if required.
Nappies and wipes are not provided so please bring in your own supply.
Hot drinks are allowed on the ward as long as they are in a cup with a screw top lid and there are cafés in the hospital.

Robin's Ward
Robin's Ward is a paediatric specialist surgery ward.
Staying on Robin's Ward
Parents are welcome at all times: other visitors are welcome until 7.00pm, when children are settled to go to sleep for the night. The ward can accommodate one parent or carer to stay next to the child overnight. The ward provides bedding, but feel free to bring your child's own bedding to make their stay more comfortable. They may also want to bring in a favourite toy or blanket.
Food and drink
We provide food for patients and have a variety of menus to accommodate most dietary requirements, including a pureed menu. It is always a good idea to bring in your children's favourite snacks.
Parents and carers need to bring in their own meals, and there is a fridge and a microwave for their use.
Cow's milk is provided on the ward. There are a few ready-made formula feeds, but not a wide variety. You may bring in an unopened tin of your own powdered milk for your child.
Clothes and toiletries
It is best to bring loose fitting clothes, or clothes that button up at the front, to make it easier to dress your child after their surgery.
You will need to bring in toiletries for your child, and nappies too if they use them.

Play Specialists
We do our best to help your child through their hospital stay. There are Play Specialists on Robin's Ward and the Children's Day Care Ward, to find fun activities to do and offer parents a welcome break.
We have DVDs, entertainment tables and Play Rooms with plenty of toys, and Robin's Ward has an outside area for fresh air.
Please supervise children and their siblings at all times.
