Children and orthopaedics

Children are central to orthopaedics. A large proportion of musculoskeletal problems originate from the early period of growth.

Even the name orthopaedics is derived from two Greek words:

  • orthos - straight
  • paidion - child.

The term 'orthopaedics' was originally from a book on the prevention and treatment of deformities in children by Dr Andry.
