Consultant in Prosthetics Medicine

Consultants in Prosthetics Medicine are rehabilitation medicine specialists with expertise in amputation surgery, prosthetics and associated medical complications and management.

They work in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team in assessing patients in both the pre-amputation stage to assess suitability for amputation and prostheses and in the post-amputation stage.

They assess for post-amputation complications such as neuroma formation, stump pain and phantom limb pain and related skin conditions.

The consultant can offer expert advice on pain management and offer general health advice for managing peripheral vascular disease and diabetes.
