Group B Strep (GBS) Screening

In the UK, universal antenatal screening for GBS colonisation is currently not recommended.

However, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recommends screening women in whom GBS was detected in a previous pregnancy at 35-37 weeks of gestation or 3-5 weeks prior to the anticipated delivery date.

This screening determines the carriage status close to delivery and provides information that helps to assess the risk of early-onset GBS.
