Fungal Culture

Where a systemic fungal infection is suspected, fungal cultures can be set up.

This test can be added on alongside routine bacterial culture.

Sample type

Includes but not limited to:

  • Sputum
  • BAL
  • Pleural fluid
  • Tissue
  • CSF
  • Ascitic fluid
  • Bone and joint samples

Samples should be sent in a sterile universal container

Fungal culture - 3 weeks (for negative cultures)
