COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2)

Not UKAS accredited - please see OUH intranet for latest guidance on testing

Point-of-Care Testing (PoCT) using lateral flow tests remains available in ward and emergency areas.

Laboratory PCR testing for COVID can be requested in isolation, but also in combination with other respiratory viruses (influenza and RSV) where a patient is symptomatic, and dependent on the season / when multiple viruses are circulating.

SARS-CoV-2 PCR is also part of the BioFire FilmArray® Respiratory PCR (community acquired) panel which may be indicated if a patient is critically unwell or immunocompromised.

If unclear, please discuss with Microbiology medical staff.

SARS-CoV-2 sequencing for positive samples is available as part of UKHSA surveillance.

Antibody testing (anti-S and anti-N) is available to look for evidence of a patient's response to vaccination and/or past infection.
