  • Biography
    Paul Johnson is an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the John Radcliffe Hospital, and Professor of Paediatric Surgery and Fellow of St Edmund Hall at the University of Oxford. He qualified in medicine from the University of Leicester and subsequently trained in General Surgery in Leicester and Derby, followed by higher surgical training in Paediatric Surgery in Oxford, Melbourne and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

    Between 1993 and 1996 he was a Research Fellow in the Department of Surgery at the University of Leicester, where he undertook a project on the Isolation of Human Islets of Langerhans for Pancreatic Islet Transplantation. This led to a Doctorate of Medicine and started his ongoing interest in the field of Islet Transplantation for reversing type 1 diabetes. He was awarded a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for this research in 1998. In 2002, he was appointed Director of the Islet Transplant Programme in Oxford.

  • Biography
    Miss Kokila Lakhoo is a consultant paediatric surgeon at the Children's Hospital in Oxford, clinical lead for paediatric surgery in Oxford and an honorary senior lecturer in paediatric surgery at the University of Oxford. She graduated from university in South Africa and completed a PhD in gastrointestinal diseases at the University of Witwatersrand.

    After training in adult general surgery and paediatrics, she underwent further trained in paediatric surgery at Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg (South Africa), Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town (South Africa) and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London (UK). She is the Chair of the International Forum for the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons and is also personally developing paediatric surgery through a link in Tanzania.

    Graduated from Edinburgh University with distinctions in paediatrics and medicine. General surgical and neonatal training in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Higher surgical training in paediatric surgery in Leeds and Nottingham. PhD research at Imperial College London on ergonomics in paediatric minimal access surgery.

    Post-CCT UK National Surgical Fellow in paediatric laparoscopic surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

    Programme Lead for Paediatric Gastrostomy Pathway, Patient Safety Collaborative, Oxford Academic Health Science Network (AHSN).

    Honorary Treasurer and Trustee of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons (BAPS). Previously Treasurer of the British Association of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons (BAPES).

  • Biography
    Graduated from the University of Manchester in 1988 with an Honours degree in Medicine and a BSc(Hons) in Anatomy (1985). Undertook higher paediatric surgical training in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children's Hospital, Guy's Hospital and Great Ormond Street, London. Clinical fellow to the transplant unit at GOSH and Guy's.

    Research fellow in the NDS, Oxford and obtained a Doctorate in Medicine for experimental immunological work on intestinal transplantation: awarded a Hunterian Professorship for this work by the Royal College of Surgeons England. Visitor for PMETB/GMC, examiner for the Intercollegiate MRCS and BAPS observer on the Committee for Nursing Children (RCN). Prior to commencing current post was Consultant Paediatric Surgeon/Urologist in the Newcastle Teaching Hospitals (RVI) and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
