Point of care testing (PoCT)

The Point of Care Testing (PoCT) section section offers support for all departments using PoCT instruments across Oxford University Hospitals and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The service includes:

  • advice on the selection and procurement of PoCT equipment
  • implementation and network connection of new PoCT devices
  • providing training and training material to new locations acquiring PoCT devices
  • organising and providing refresher training to current users
  • quality control checking of all reagents prior to dispatch to end users
  • supplying reagents and consumables for all devices supported by PoCT
  • troubleshooting and liaising with external organisations (companies) to resolve any issues arising with the devices
  • external quality assurance schemes for all PoCT tests.

PoCT devices managed by PoCT section for OUH and Oxford Health include:

  • Abbott Diabetes Blood glucose/ketone meters (Precision Xceed Pro, Freestyle PrecisionPro, Optium H and Optium NeoH)
  • Abbott Point of Care i-STAT
  • Siemens Clinitek Status Connect (urine strip reader)
  • Alere Afinion AS-100
