The Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Late Effects Service at Oxford University Hospitals specialises in the long-term care of young people after cancer, helping you understand and manage any late effects of treatment and empowering you to live well.
We offer personalised follow-up based on your treatment and cancer type. From medical follow-up to emotional wellbeing and education, this service is about you and your life after cancer.
Our dedicated Late Effects Clinical Nurse Specialist helps ensure young people, who have experienced all cancer types, get the support they need.

Testimonials
- "When I was told about Ready Steady Go Hello I thought it would mean lots of long conversations but it was really easy. We talked about what was important to me, and how to understand my choices. Everyone was so friendly and I felt really comfortable."
- "My first late effects appointment was very reassuring. It was nice to talk about normal life and what mattered to me, and not my cancer life."
- "The most useful bit was learning that it was OK to ask the doctor what my options were. I don't like to have CT because of the radiation - I felt confident to ask questions and ask for different options."
Our team
Our team includes:
- Medical Oncologists (cancer doctors)
- Endocrinologists (doctors who treat hormone imbalance)
- Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)
Our team has experience of working with young people who have been treated for cancer; we recognise their unique needs and have expertise in treating the long-term effects of cancer treatment.
As a team we aim to empower survivors to live active and healthy lives.
When you are ready, we will transfer your care to the TYA Late Effects Service which is based in the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. If you have previously had treatment in the Children's Hospital, your appointments will be in a different building, with different people.
Your doctor will have talked to you about moving over to the adult team. We may refer patients to other specialists within our hospitals.

Transition to adult healthcare
When you reach a certain age, your care will move from the paediatric (children's) service to the adult service.
This provides an opportunity to learn how to speak up for yourself and feel more in control.
