Children's outpatients

We will see your child in Children's Outpatients usually after a referral from their GP or after their admission to hospital.

Oxford Children's Hospital

Children's Outpatients is on LG1 of Oxford Children's Hospital. Appointments usually last about 20 minutes.

When visiting Children's Outpatients, please allow at least one hour to find a parking space.

Please see 'Parking' in 'Car travel and parking'

On arrival please go to the reception desk to register. When you have registered, we will weigh your child, and afterwards the doctor will call you and your child in from the waiting area for your appointment.

If your child needs to have blood tests done, our nurses will use an anaesthetic cream, and our excellent Phlebotomy team, Caroline, Xu and Pete, will take your child's blood.

We have a Play Specialist in the department to support children during any investigations or procedures.

The Children's Radiology Department is next to Children's Outpatients, in case your child should need X-rays or scans.

Horton General Hospital

Children's outpatients clinics are held in the main hospital close to the Oxford Road entrance. Appointments usually last between 20 and 30 minutes.

When visiting please bear in mind that it may take some time to locate a parking space.

Please see 'Parking' in 'Car travel and parking'

On arrival please go to the main outpatient reception desk to register. We will direct you to the children's outpatient area where we will weigh your child and, if appropriate, measure their height, and afterwards the doctor will call you and your child in from the waiting area for your appointment.

We have a friendly and experienced Phlebotomy team available to take blood if blood tests are required.

Our Phlebotomists will use an anaesthetic cream, so if you think a blood test will be required please ask when your child is being weighed, as the cream takes approximately 45 minutes to numb the skin.

The Phlebotomy Service is available on Monday and Tuesday and appointments can be booked by telephone.
