About us

Paediatric Acute and General Medical Services are provided on two sites, the Children's Hospital at the John Radcliffe Hospital site in Oxford and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

The service comprises:

  • assessment and management of acutely unwell children
  • assessment, inpatient treatment if necessary or interval review of children referred by their GP or presenting to the emergency department
  • an outpatient service for local and regional children requiring secondary/tertiary level paediatric care
  • direct referrals from local GPs and advice lines
  • ambulatory paediatric services
  • support services to paediatric surgical specialties.

A proportion of our work is child protection, for which there are excellent links with hospital social service departments and the community paediatric department, as well as social care within the community.
