Based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, we offer multidisciplinary assessment and treatment, and provide holistic care tailored to each child's needs.

We assess and manage a wide range of spinal conditions in children and young people, including:

We offer both non-surgical management and surgical treatments where needed, including:

  • Bracing
  • Spinal fusion
  • Growth rod insertion
  • Halogravity traction
  • Scoli School
  • MDT spinal clinics

Clinics

Our consultant-led clinics run weekly in Children's Outpatients at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

We see patients who are aged 16 or over in the Adult Outpatient Department.

Appointments are arranged via a referral from your GP, paediatrician or specialist.

Your child's appointment

If your child has not had a spinal X-ray before their first appointment, or if their last X-ray was more than six months before their appointment date, we will direct you to Radiology before we see you in clinic so that a spinal X-ray can be taken.

Please allow up to two hours for your visit. We advise arriving 45 minutes before your child's scheduled appointment time, if they need an X-ray first.

Please bring copies of any previous scans or medical letters, a list of your child's medication, and any questions you want to ask. 

Your child should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. We may ask your child to remove clothing or change into a hospital gown so we can examine their spine.

A consultant spinal surgeon and/or another member of the team will see your child, take a full history and review any relevant imaging.

We will carry out a physical assessment, including examination of their spine, reflexes and strength.
