Mr Colin Nnadi MBBS FRCS(Trauma & Orth)

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Clinical Lead

Mr Nnadi graduated from the college of Medicine in Lagos, training in Orthopaedic Surgery on the Wessex rotation UK.

He was awarded the FRCS (Orth) in 2006 and was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals in 2008.

Colin Nnadi

Mr Gavin Bowden MB BCh FCS(SA)(Orth)

Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford

Special interests

Back pain, scoliosis and other spinal deformities, spinal surgery, fractures of the spine, spinal tumours and infections

Mr Bowden graduated in Medicine in 1986 from the University of the Witwatersrand and specialised in Orthopaedic Surgery in Cape Town.

Between 1996 and 2000 Mr Bowden was the Nuffield Orthopaedic Scholar and Clinical Research Fellow for the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Oxford.

Mr Bedansh Roy Chaudhary MRCS MSc FRCS(N/Surg)

Neurosurgical Spinal Consultant

During his 20 years of medical training, Mr Chaudhary has been affiliated with and trained in universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College and University of Toronto.

His Neurosurgical Spinal Registrar / Residency programme was undertaken at Addenbrooke's Hospital where he was also the Chief Resident for Neurosciences.

Before his consultant appointment, he undertook a complex combined Neurosurgical and Orthopaedic Spinal Fellowship at the Toronto Western Hospital, Canada.

  • Cervical spine surgery including myelopathy and spinal cord injury
  • Minimally-invasive spine surgery

Mr Sean Grannum

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Grannum completed his training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery on the East Midlands Deanery rotation in 2011.

Following completion of advanced specialist spinal training he has worked as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust and now works at Oxford University Hospitals.

  • Management of degenerative lumbar and cervical spine pathologies
Sean Grannum

Professor Chris Lavy OBE MD MCh FCS FRCS

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Prof Lavy is Professor of Orthopaedics and Tropical Surgery at the University of Oxford.

He is involved in research and teaching in global issues in surgery.

Mr Jeremy Reynolds MBChB BSc (Hons) FRCS(Trauma & Orth)

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Reynolds graduated from Bristol University with basic surgical training in Bristol and Surrey, and subsequently as a Specialist Registrar in Oxford. Prior to his appointment as a consultant he completed a 12 month fellowship in Vancouver, Canada.

He is the lead consultant for Oxford’s Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service and has developed the regional pathway for tumour associated spinal cord compression.

  • Clinical outcomes based research for spinal deformity
  • Assessing the role of bone substitutes in spinal fusion
Jeremy Reynolds

Mr Dominique Rothenfluh

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Rothenfluh was born and trained in Switzerland, with rotations in the US and fellowship training in the UK, and held consultant positions in Switzerland and the UK.

He is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals, treating all degenerative spinal conditions. He offers the whole spectrum of spinal surgery including minimally-invasive techniques for spinal decompression and fusion.

  • Tumour surgery of the spine
Mr Dominique Rothenfluh

Gerard Mawhinney BSc (Hons) MSc SCP (Tr & Orth) NMP RN MFPCEd

Consultant Nurse

Mr Mawhinney is a registered adult nurse and independent prescriber with over 20 years' clinical and commercial experience in spinal surgery, and an active member of the Faculty of Perioperative Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Mr Mawhinney has completed advanced clinical training in Surgical Care Practice (Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery). He is currently the Research and Innovation Lead and Principal Spinal Editor for the Association of Surgical Care Practitioners.

Alongside his clinical role, Gerard is studying for a DPhil in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Oxford.

Elaine Buchanan

Consultant Physiotherapist

Mrs Buchanan trained as a Chartered Physiotherapist in Edinburgh, graduating in 1988 and completed an MSc in Cardiff in 2000. She was appointed as a Consultant Physiotherapist for Oxford Spinal Surgery Unit in 2004.

She is a member of the NHS England Spinal Services Clinical Reference Group and future president of the Society for Back Pain Research. She is the founder and past chair of the National Back Pain Pathway - Clinical Network and previously sat on many national groups including: NICE, UKSSB, Spinal Task Force and the Improving Spinal Care project.

  • Influencing the development and delivery of spinal care nationally
  • Implementation of national spinal pain guidelines
Elaine Buchanan

Jen Bridle

Advance Practice Physiotherapist, Spinal

Mrs Bridle trained as a Chartered Physiotherapist at Oxford Brookes University, graduating in 2006.

She has worked in a variety of clinical specialisms over the years, latterly specialising in Rheumatology and now spinal conditions. She joined the team at Oxford Spinal Surgery Unit in 2016.

  • Assessing and managing degenerative spinal conditions
  • Implementing national spinal guidelines
  • Adult spinal deformity
