Oxfordshire Wheelchair Service
Oxfordshire Wheelchair Service is an NHS equipment service based in the Oxford Centre for Enablement at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
We offer wheelchairs and specialist wheelchair seating provision to over 6000 people across Oxfordshire.
Our team comprises:
- Occupational Therapists
- Engineers
- Clinical Scientists
- Technicians.
All have a wide variety of skills, knowledge and expertise.
We supply wheelchairs for people with long-term requirements who intend to use their wheelchair regularly for six months or longer. Short-term loans can be arranged via the Red Cross or from a mobility shop.
For a basic wheelchair, our Wheelchair Maintenance Service will deliver equipment to your home address, according to the requirements stated by the referring professional.
Clinically-assessed provision is free via the NHS, although users may upgrade their equipment via personal wheelchair budgets, by paying the difference between the prescribed chair and their preferred option.
Appointments
We may contact you by phone to discuss your needs, and order equipment based on the information you give us.
If you require additional assessment, we may invite you to our clinic to discuss your needs.
We prefer to see our clients in our clinic, as this enables us to demonstrate our full range of equipment, and we can sometimes issue equipment directly from stock we hold. It also means our Engineers can make full use of our on-site workshop facilities.
If you are unable to travel, due to poor health or lack of appropriate transport, we may visit you at home.
We may also need to visit your home with proposed equipment, to check it is suitable for your home environment.

Referrals
We do not accept self-referrals, as we require some medical and physical background information to help us make the right choice for you.
Your GP, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist can refer you.
How to make a referral
Equipment reviews
If you experience problems with your equipment, please call us and we will either order parts or equipment for delivery directly to you, or place you on the waiting list for a review in our clinic.
Your Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or GP can also do this for you.
Equipment repairs
To arrange a date for repair please call the Wheelchair Maintenance Service.

The repair will be carried out between 8.30am and 4.00pm on the offered date.
