Paul qualified in 1990 from Nottingham University Medical School. During his training years he worked in Bristol, Salisbury, Stoke Mandeville and Oxford before taking up his consultant post in Oxford in 2003.
He is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and the British Society of Surgery of the Hand, and holds Specialist Registration in Plastic Surgery.
His NHS practice is busy and varied and includes microsurgical reconstruction after cancer surgery, surgery of the upper limb in both adults and children, surgery for bone infection and skin cancer management.
He is currently Lead Clinician in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and also coordinates the training of specialist trainees in plastic surgery in Oxford.
