Human Performance Laboratory

Whether a weekend enthusiast, or at Olympic level, a keen athlete will always seek to improve their performance. Much of the recent progress in record-breaking (and reducing injury) is due to advances in sports science.

Small changes in technique and training can boost performance in competition. Performance assessment was previously only available to the elite athlete. The oxsport@noc performance clinic is now available to all.

Please note however that this is a private service and is not available on the NHS.

The Human Performance Laboratory provides different levels of services, starting from a basic assessment of fitness and advice through to complex monitoring and event preparation.

Parameters measured include:

  • VO2 Max Oxygen deficits for anaerobic capacity
  • Lactate curve
  • Power/Heart Rate efficiency curves
  • Spirometry for breathing problem

Assessments are personalised according to individual requirements. Regular assessment and review of the athlete is available to optimise a training schedule throughout the year.

The Human Performance Laboratory promotes research into sports science and has links with the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University, and sports science departments nationally.
