Welcome to artlink
artlink is the arts and music programme for Oxford University Hospitals*. Its aim is to use the visual arts, performance, music and literature to make our hospitals welcoming and attractive environments and to help reduce stress and anxiety for those visiting. Arts projects are developed in close collaboration with staff to create a calming atmosphere in wards and departments and to distract, engage and bring pleasure to patients, visitors and staff.
There is now a wealth of research showing that the arts can provide real, measurable health benefits to patients. Studies have shown that music and the visual arts can reduce the length of a patient's stay in hospital, decrease levels of depression and reduce the perception of pain. We believe that the creation of a positive and uplifting environment can do much to improve well being and the quality of life for patients, visitors and staff. artlink also works with other NHS trusts in Oxfordshire to organise the Culture Club, an arts club for staff.
Most of the artlink projects are funded by the hospital charity - ORH Charitable Funds - or from external trusts and foundations. We are therefore wholly dependent on the generosity of individuals and others to develop our work.
You can support the arts programme by giving a donation, buying artwork from one of our temporary exhibitions or buying one of Lisa Milroy's beautiful drawings - just click on the Hands On icon below for further details.
