Gladys Hudson's story
For 85 year old Gladys Hudson the pain of losing her beloved husband Roy was softened by the knowledge that he had been treated with dignity, respect and warmth.
Gladys and her family spent over a year fundraising in Roy's memory to help refurbish a day room for the Stroke Unit, to act as a space for patients and their families to relax - and somewhere where doctors could talk to relatives in private.
She explained: "All the staff were so wonderful to Roy, so when we lost him we wanted to do something to say thank you and to help other families."
Sister Sarah Wheeler thanked the family, and said "The money has created a sanctuary which is used by patients and their families every day. We are incredibly grateful to Gladys and her family for remembering Roy in such a special way."
