We would like to welcome you to join our team and be part of our world-renowned teaching hospital and centre of clinical excellence! #OneTeamOneOUH

Recruitment at OUH

OUH is a dynamic and stimulating place to enhance and develop your nursing career - whether that be as a clinician, researcher, educator, or leader. We place the highest importance on the successful recruitment of those who join our nursing and midwifery teams - you are our front-line in the delivery of the compassionate care we treasure so much.

Whether you're new to nursing, looking for an opportunity to develop your skills and expertise for the first time, or an existing experienced nurse with a desire to embrace new opportunities, we have a place for you in our team.

Our vision is to create and sustain a workforce fit for the future, to grow and nurture the reputations of our professions and to have a collective voice that is powerful and heard, influencing policy and practice. We confidently expect our nursing and midwifery teams to have a high level of skill and expertise, share our commitment to our core values, and in return, expect our full support as you embark on your career development journey. We have sites in Oxford and Banbury (north Oxfordshire) and satellite sites across the Thames Valley region for you to choose from.

The foundations of our five-year journey to develop and evolve professional excellence is clearly set out in our Our Strategy for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals (pdf).

Adult nursing

We have a vast array of options to develop and grow you as a nurse, whether you want to:

  • work in one of our fast-paced surgical wards, our leading cancer centre, neurology and neurosurgery departments, excellent heart centre, or refurbished and expanded emergency department
  • play a part in our regional major trauma centre
  • join one of our specialist medical departments.

Children's nursing

Our dedicated Children's Hospital, Paediatric Crictical Care Unit and Newborn Care Unit are great places to flourish as a children's nurse or an adult registered nurse looking to work with children.

With opportunities throughout our expanding children's services in Oxford and Banbury, our team welcomes both newly qualified and experienced nurses.

Intensive care nursing

We have three dedicated adult-based critical care units:

Each department has an exceptional team of motivated and talented nurses who are passionate about excellence in critical care nursing, while providing an environment that is accessible and supportive to learn in.

Midwifery

With over 7,500 babies born in Oxfordshire every year, our Maternity Services are a hive of activity.

We are looking for experienced midwives and newly qualified midwives who share our vision for every family to experience excellent personalised care throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Theatres

Whether you have theatre experience or would like to explore a career in theatres, we can support you to develop and grow in this field of nursing or develop you further as an operating department practitioner (ODP).

We have an experienced education team in place to support your development and career progression.

Our learning environment includes:

  • preceptorship
  • supernumerary status while achieving competencies
  • an in-house perioperative course
  • support for revalidation
  • leadership development.

This will further support your development and career progression, along with pioneering surgical techniques provided.

Graduate

We understand the enormity of moving on from student nurse to newly qualified nurse. Departmental practice educators and our established preceptorship programme ensure you have all the right support in place to learn, reflect, develop and grow.
