Radiotherapy Services

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive cancer service for all tumour sites, and hosts more than twenty local, specialist or regional multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).

Radiotherapy is an integral part of the treatment for many malignancies. It is also used when appropriate for the treatment of benign disease.

We are based within the Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre, on the Churchill Hospital site.

Radiotherapy is situated in a dedicated facility which provides an appropriate environment for the accurate simulation, planning and delivery of radiotherapy treatment for adults and children.

Oxford has modern, up-to-date facilities for inpatients, day case and radiotherapy treatment provision, which are important to patients and clinical staff.

We work very closely with staff from the University of Oxford Department of Oncology and the Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology to deliver and research cutting-edge radiotherapy treatments.

In 2016 we were designated one of only three National Cancer Research Institute CTRad Centres of Excellence in Academic Radiation Oncology.

We also perform:

  • brachytherapy
  • radioisotope work.

We welcome comments and suggestions to help improve our service

The responsibility for overall management of the service lies with the Radiotherapy Management Group, which comprises the Head of Service, the Radiotherapy Service Manager and the Head of Radiotherapy Physics.

There are two regular meetings with wider membership, the Radiotherapy Operational Group and the Radiotherapy Governance Meeting; both these groups meet monthly. Members of staff are encouraged to participate in multidisciplinary sub-group meetings related to aspects of radiotherapy practice which feed in to the Operational Group.
