Midwives, maternity support workers, and other maternity staff at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are getting on their bikes to help celebrate the International Day of the Midwife on Sunday 5 May 2019.

Complete with two static bikes kindly loaned by Fusions Leisure Centre, the midwives will be looking to cycle up to 90 miles - the equivalent of cycling from the John Radcliffe Hospital to all of their midwifery-led units and back.

The bikes will be located in the foyer of the Women's Centre, and the bike ride will start at 8.00am and finish when they reach their target.

Staff will be taking part in the challenge during their breaks and will be raising money for Oxford Hospitals Charity, with all proceeds going to the Women's Centre. There will be fundraising buckets to receive donations on the day.

Wendy Randall, Consultant Midwife at the Trust, said: "We're very excited about this bike ride.

"By fundraising for the Women's Centre, we can help make a difference to women, their families, and staff. This will be a great way to raise money but also to join together as a team and work towards our target.

"Our maternity team is a wonderful group of people and we can't wait to work together on this - if you happen to be in the Women's Centre on the day, come and cheer us on, join in the cycle, or just join us for a cup of tea!"
