'Get in, go far' - apprentice Rebecca travels out to India

This article is more than five years old.

Rebecca Eastwood, Nursing Workforce Assistant and Business Administration Apprentice, is spending this National Apprenticeship Week on an international nurse recruitment trip to India.

She will be assisting OUH Associate Chief Nurse Andrew Carter in his valuable work to grow our nursing workforce by finding the best quality applicants for our nursing roles.

Over the course of a busy week in India, Rebecca will take part in the interviewing of 188 candidates, as well as showing them presentations about nursing and midwifery at Oxford University Hospitals and the work being done at the Trust to improve the care we offer our patients.

Although they have a lot to pack in, there will still be a little time to explore the local area and take a lunchtime boat trip.

Rebecca is currently completing a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship with the Trust, having completed A-levels but decided against University in favour of first-hand work experience instead.

The Trust is carrying out a staffing initiative to recruit international nurses to join our nursing teams across all four sites, and as PA to Andrew Carter, Rebecca helps with the Human Resources workload the oversea nurses that arrive in the Trust every month.

Our aim is to recruit at least 200 nurses over the next couple of years, and over eighty have started already.

Oxford University Hospitals is currently recruiting Business Administration Apprentices for a September 2019 start. Roles are being advertised and a Recruitment Event will take place on 28 March.
