Dr Lisa Ayers, Principal Clinical Scientist from the Department of Clinical and Laboratory Immunology at the Churchill Hospital was invited to the NHS 70th birthday celebrations at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday 4 July 2018.

The event was an amazing opportunity to represent Oxford University Hospitals and Healthcare Scientists, and to meet other healthcare professionals from across the NHS.

She also had the chance to chat to the Secretary of State for Health and Social care about the importance of the role of Healthcare Scientists within the NHS.

The opportunity arose due to Lisa's current award of a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) WISE Fellowship, which is a programme to give female healthcare scientists invaluable bespoke leadership experience and support through mentorship.

The fellows also receive speaking and ambassadorial opportunities via both the WISE and the CSO.
