Hamira Ghafoor from Oxford has been given a commendation as Learning Representative of the Year at the Royal College of Nursing's annual Congress in Belfast.

Celebrating the very best in nursing, the annual RCN Awards present Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships and Awards of Merit to those who have given an outstanding contribution to nursing, along with honours for the Learning Representative, Safety Representative and Steward of the Year.

Hamira, who works for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says: "I am humbled and honoured to have been commended for this award.

"I hope that my equality and diversity related work goes some way to enhancing the lives of our diverse members in Oxford. I am passionate about raising issues and supporting members so this is a wonderful recognition of my work."

Patricia Marquis, RCN Regional Director says: "I am delighted for Hamira. All of our representatives work extremely hard for our members and for Hamira to have this recognition is fantastic and a real endorsement of the wonderful work that she does. It also shows how valuable the role of a Learning Representative both within a trust and in the RCN."

Hamira was given the award at the first night of RCN Congress, this year held in Belfast.

RCN Congress is where RCN members meet to learn, develop and share nursing practice. It is also where members inform the RCN agenda and influence nursing and health policy through debate.
