Positive feedback for midwives 'beyond lovely'

The Midwifery team at the John Radcliffe Hospital had a wonderful start to the day on Thursday 23 April 2020, when this review of their service was posted on our Facebook page by Daisie Whitford.

"I just wanted to leave a comment for any nervous ladies that are due to give birth soon in the current restrictions at the JR.

On the 21st April I gave birth to my second son on the Spires Ward. After his safe delivery I was transferred downstairs for a bit of TLC!

My husband was allowed in to the ward 15 minutes after my arrival / establishing that I was far along enough to stay and have our baby. When I was transferred downstairs he was allowed to stay with us and look after our son while an amazing team took care of me. He was then allowed to stay for an hour once I was out of theatre.

As this all happened late evening I was kept in over night and then discharged late in the afternoon the next day. It was obviously not nice being on my own during the day after experiencing what it was like with my husband being there for me with our first son a couple of years ago but I can honestly say that the staff are just as attentive probably more so to your needs.

The care I have received from every department I saw was second to none and more importantly I felt safe and protected from the virus at every stage / ward.

The point I mainly want to make is apart from my husband not being there the next day the care I received throughout was no different to what I experienced two years ago when I gave birth to my first son.

I can't thank them enough for the risk that they are taking by still coming into work to ensure my son as well as everyone else's new babies are brought safely into this world. My husband and I are so grateful for all that you have done, thank you xx."

Daisie's feedback, described as 'beyond lovely' by our team, is a wonderful reflection of the dedication of all our staff, particularly in the challenging circumstances they face.

We hope it will also reassure women who are due to give birth over the coming days and weeks.

We are hugely grateful to Daisie and her family for sharing their story.
