International accolade for Craniofacial Surgeon

Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Clinical Director of Oxford Craniofacial Unit, Mr David Johnson, has been elected President of the European Society of Craniofacial Surgery.
It is a great honour for Mr Johnson to be elected to this prestigious post, and to host the European Society of Craniofacial Surgery in Oxford in 2020 in what will be the 40th anniversary of the Oxford Craniofacial Unit.
Mr Johnson has a long history in providing medical services in Oxford, having graduated from Cambridge University with a First Class Honours degree in Medical Sciences in 1989. He was awarded the Ida Mary Henderson Scholarship to Christ Church, Oxford, and graduated from the University of Oxford in Clinical Medicine in 1992.
After his general surgical training he undertook three years full time research as a Welcome Clinical Training Fellow at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) in Oxford, where he researched into the molecular biology of craniosynostosis and the genetics of congenital hand anomalies. This has led to numerous publications and international presentations and the award of a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Oxford.
In 2001 Mr Johnson was awarded a Hunterian Professorship as recognition of this research by The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He trained in Plastic Surgery at Mount Vernon Hospital, Sailsbury District Hospital and the Radcliffe Infirmary at Oxford.
He then spent one year as a senior Craniofacial Fellow at The Australian Craniofacial Unit in Adelaide before taking up his Consultant post in Plastic, Reconstructive and Craniofacial Surgery in Oxford in 2006.
