SANDS Memorial Garden Rededication to take place on 13 February

This article is more than five years old.

There will be a Rededication of the SANDS Memorial Garden at Headington Cemetery on Wednesday 13 February 2019 at 2.00pm.

Anyone may attend this brief ceremony.

The Memorial Garden is a place for the burial, should the parents wish, of babies born under 24 weeks’ gestation at the John Radcliffe and Horton General hospitals. Each month a service is held by the Trust to respectfully bury these babies, at which parents are welcome to be present.

When the Cemetery is open, the Garden provides a quiet place for families to visit.

The Rededication follows some reordering of the Garden carried out by Oxford City Council, working with the charity SANDS, the Cemetery and the Oxford University Hospitals Chaplaincy Team.

There is now a memorial star, where families can lay small items of remembrance.

Taking part in the service will be:

  • The Revd Sarah Sewell, OUH Lead Chaplain
  • The Revd Janet Radford, OUH Chaplain
  • Monawar Hussein, OUH Muslim Chaplain
  • Fr Pius Duniya, OUH Roman Catholic Chaplain
  • Paula Gallacher, OUH Bereavement Midwife
  • Judith Ravetz, Jewish Representative and OUH Chaplaincy Volunteer
  • Karen Hancox, Oxfordshire Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS)
  • Vicky Smith, Oxfordshire Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS)
