Radio Horton brings Cropredy Convention to patients

Banbury's hospital radio station, Radio Horton, was delighted to bring music and exclusive interviews from Fairport's Cropredy Convention to patients in the Horton General Hospital across the weekend of 11-13 August 2017.

For its 37th year, the family-friendly folk and rock festival, which attracts an audience of 23,000, included performances from headliners The Divine Comedy, Richard Thompson, Petula Clark and many others.

A team of volunteers from Radio Horton set up shop in the village of Cropredy, to offer a taste of the atmosphere to people in hospital and unable to be there.

The team had exclusive back stage access, and joined official media partners including BBC Oxford to provide coverage of the event.

Lisa Simmons, Radio Horton volunteer, said: "With Fairport Convention celebrating its 50th birthday this year there was a special buzz around the festival, both in the main field and back stage among the artists."

"It was a privilege for Radio Horton to have back stage access - a first for the station, which helped give the patients at the hospital a unique insight into the event."

"The festival focuses on its local ties, and what came across very strongly from many artists and bands, especially Fairport Convention, was their support for the Horton General Hospital."

Radio Horton is creating a podcast of its coverage which will be available in the coming weeks, and featured interviews will also be available from the station's website.
