This article is more than two years old.

As part of International Nurses Day on Wednesday 12 May 2021, we are pleased to share this message from Sam Foster, Chief Nursing Officer at the Trust.

Dear colleagues,

Today is International Nurses Day and I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you for all the amazing things you do – and to look to the future with you.

We all play different roles here at OUH – be it Nurse or Allied Health Professional – but one thing is undeniably true.

It is our combined compassionate strength and exceptional individual efforts that have helped those at their most vulnerable and brought us through the toughest challenge of our professional lives.

The way you have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic has been truly inspirational.

In the face of an unprecedented global health crisis, you have continued to do all you can to care for patients.

I am so proud of the courage and professionalism you have shown during the pandemic as we prepared for and then battled against an unknown enemy.

We have never stopped, and the kindness and support you have shown each other, as well as our patients, as part of OneTeamOneOUH has saved lives and keeps driving us forward.

We are not out of this yet, and we will have further challenges to overcome together, but I wanted to take this moment to express my appreciation and gratitude for all that you have done and continue to do for so many people.

I was recently joined by colleagues to record a video and say thank you to you all. This can be watched on the OUH YouTube channel.

It has not been easy, but our teamwork, commitment, and resilience have helped us through – together – and will take us forward into the future.

So today I am delighted to share our five-year strategy, which will have you at the heart of new models of care, ensuring that OUH is a great place to work and always delivering compassionate care to all our patients.

You can read and find out more about the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals strategy on the Trust website.

Once again, I would like to give a heartfelt thank you for your excellent and hard work – I am immensely proud of you all.

Sam Foster
