Staff and visitors at the Horton General Hospital were invited to take part in a Healthy Hospital Day on 10 April 2019 to discover ways to improve their health and wellbeing.

There were health promotion stands with information on increasing physical activity, eating healthily, BMI checks, mini health MOTs, mental health and sleep support, information for carers and Tai Chi demonstrations.

Achieve Oxfordshire were also on hand to provide Slimming World vouchers for those who wanted to kick-start their weight loss efforts.

The Trust's Occupational Health team, who co-ordinated the day, were also available to answer questions on staff mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as sharing hints and tips for keeping well at work.

Anna Hinton, Health and Wellbeing Promotion Specialist at the Trust, said: "The hospital is a 24-seven, 365 day environment so it's important that we keep ourselves physically and mentally healthy in order to manage well and build our resilience. Research shows that when we take care of ourselves and our colleagues, our service is better and patients benefit.

"The support of the League of Friends has been invaluable. They kindly donated funds to buy staff bananas, and the local Sainsbury's donated some fruit which has given staff the choice to have a healthy snack at break time. The restaurant served healthier options at breakfast and lunch, and also generously donated a fabulous fruit basket for the team who won the health quiz.

"We were really grateful for the help of the various experts who took part in the day - they were on-hand to answer any questions our staff, visitors, or patients had. They had plenty of tips and lots of guidance on the steps people can take to live a healthier life - it's often the small changes that make the biggest difference.

"As a Trust, we place great importance on the health and wellbeing of staff and visitors alike."
