Sad news from Oxford University Hospitals

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of a highly valued member of staff who worked in our administrative support services.

Peter Gough, who passed away on Tuesday from COVID-19 aged 56, worked as an Administration Assistant for the Trust, most recently in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and before that in Neurosciences. 

Peter was a well-liked colleague who was kind and caring. He played an important role in supporting the delivery of seamless patient care through his work in ensuring patient documentation was readily available. He also supported the clinical team with general administrative tasks. He was an asset to the team, who will be greatly missed. 

Colleagues describe Peter as very hardworking, conscientious, always happy to help others out, and someone who enjoyed his job. 

Terry Roberts, our Chief People Officer, says: "Our thoughts at this very sad time are with Peter’s family, as well as with his friends and colleagues throughout the Trust. 

"Peter spent his working life as a dedicated public servant, joining the NHS after a long period working at HMRC. We are all grateful for his service. He will be missed."

Peter’s family have asked that their privacy be respected at this very sad time. As colleagues we will be supporting his family as best we can through their loss.

This very sad news is distressing in particular for Peter’s immediate colleagues, and everything possible is being done to support them and those staff who cared for him. We have also reminded all staff about the services and advice that are available to them.

In a personal message to all staff, Dr Bruno Holthof (Chief Executive Officer) and Professor Sir Jonathan Montgomery (Chair) said: "Any loss of a member of the OUH family affects us all. We are one team at OUH and we will support each other through these difficult times. We are very sorry to be bringing you such sad news."
