What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship consists of:

  • knowledge and competency-based qualifications at Level 2 or 3 in your chosen subject
  • a learning programme tailored to your needs
  • literacy, numeracy and, for some apprenticeship frameworks, IT qualifications
  • in-house induction and work-specific mandatory training
  • regular personal development reviews.

The programme consists of both theory and practice, so much of your learning is assessed on the Ward or in the Department.

The OUH young apprenticeship programme offers a fixed-term contract with training and assessment provided by locally-based established training providers, a work-based supervisor, a manager and the OUH Support Worker Academy.

We're looking for enthusiastic and committed people who want to be part of our team.

Apprenticeships for current OUH staff

We offer adult apprenticeships to our current staff.

If you are already an OUH employee, Band 1-4, have completed your probationary period and workplace induction, and you are interested in developing your skills and knowledge in your job role, an adult apprenticeship programme could be the perfect choice for you.

Not only will you increase your knowledge and capability, but you will also gain a qualification and improve prospects to further your career.

This would be subject to line manager approval and in line with government eligibility criteria.
