Oxfordshire Deaf Children's Society

Registered charity number 297689

Oxfordshire Deaf Children's Society (ODCS) is affiliated to the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS). ODCS provides support to hearing-impaired children, young people, young adults and their families in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.

ODCS provides local opportunities for families to meet and help each other. It can be a shock to parents when they are told their child has a hearing loss. Other parents who have hearing-impaired children and young people can help with questions or discuss worries about hospital visits, education or just day-to-day living.

Most hearing-impaired children in Oxfordshire go to mainstream schools and ODCS gives them the chance to meet other children with hearing loss. ODCS arranges regular family events and outings.

As well as being a source of mutual support, ODCS is in contact with professionals in both the health and education services. NDCS and ODCS can also supply information and leaflets on various aspects of childhood deafness, both medical and non-medical - such as applying for Disability Living Allowance.

ODCS may, depending on suitability of application and available funds, be able to help families with the purchase of equipment. Each application is considered on its own merit.

ODCS welcomes members from all religious and ethnic backgrounds and users of any language and communication method. ODCS is run by a committee of volunteers.
