Stoma / Colorectal Nursing

The Stoma / Colorectal Nursing Team provides a responsive, supportive and comprehensive nursing service to patients, including children, requiring:

  • stoma formation
  • reconstructive bowel surgery
  • management of enterocutaneous fistulae (abnormal connections between the intestine and the surface of the skin)

as well as offering a comprehensive support structure for any patient who is diagnosed with, or suspected of having, a colorectal cancer.

The Stoma Nurse Specialists are able to help with:

  • stoma concerns
  • review of stoma management
  • new products
  • information regarding stoma formation
  • information on local and national support groups.

The Colorectal Cancer Nurses are able to offer:

  • advice on treatment options
  • information on any investigations
  • referral to another team member
  • information on local support groups
  • information on relevant websites and charities.

Patients can telephone and speak to a Nurse Specialist Monday to Friday during office hours.

Direct patient access clinics are available Monday to Friday within the departmental clinic room on Level 6, John Radcliffe Hospital and in the Colorectal Unit, Level 2, Churchill Hospital.
