Intravenous steroids

These are given via a drip in hospital to treat severe inflammation very quickly. This is usually done as a day case taking 2-4 hours and you can go home afterwards.

A one off dose may be used, but generally we give one or two courses. A course is one dose each day for three days.

Oral steroids are often continued afterwards.
