Hip and knee clinic

The outpatient appointment will enable the clinician treating you to give you a more detailed explanation of the problems you are experiencing with your hip or knee and will help him or her to plan the appropriate treatment.

We always aim to run clinics as efficiently as possible and keep waiting times to a minimum. However, due to the complexity of cases that we see, there may be delays and we do ask you to remain patient - we will always try our best to see you as soon as possible.

When your GP refers you to see an orthopaedic surgeon you can choose to be seen at one of our peripheral clinics or at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. Your planned treatment (surgery, MRI’s, ultrasound guided injections, pre-operative assessment clinics) will happen at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

If you are an Oxfordshire patient and the outcome of your initial GP referral is to be referred on to Secondary Care (referred on to a surgeon) you will be sent a letter from the MSK HUB (based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre) with a unique UBRN number, outpatients clinics and a contact telephone number which will allow you to choose the date, location and time of your future appointment.

Once the appointment has been booked, you will receive a telephone reminder call seven days before your planned appointment and a final two days before your planned appointment.

You will be asked by the Netcall Reminder System to confirm your appointment by pressing the key number as instructed. The Netcall Reminder System will also allow you to ring the department directly ( 01865 737876) to re-arrange your appointment should you be unavailable.

Please note that hip and knee clinics are directly bookable via the E-Referral service and therefore the administrative staff can only re-arrange, or cancel the initial appointment.
