Ionis gene therapy trial

We are aware of the very exciting news regarding the Ionis gene therapy trial that was reported on BBC News on 11 December 2017.

We are in contact with the Principal Investigator about future studies. However, there are no immediate plans regarding further clinical trials, and we all need to wait until all the information is available.

If you are interested in participating in research, and are not already known to our department, then you can be referred to Professor Andrea Nemeth, Oxford Centre for Genomic Medicine.

If you are already under review by our department then you will be able to discuss research studies during your next appointment.

You may be anxious when you are first referred to the Clinical Genetics Department.

You may be worried about your child, your pregnancy or your risk of developing cancer. We will do our best to reassure you and give you the support you need.

We are used to seeing people with similar issues to you or your child, and hope we have the experience and expertise to help you.

Should you be diagnosed with a particular genetic condition, we can offer you information about organisations that can offer practical advice and help.
