Special interests: Musculoskeletal and device related infection, microbiology and infectious diseases, infection control.
Dr Atkins is a Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Oxford University Hospitals, Honorary Senior Lecturer, Oxford University and Training Programme Director, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology.
She qualified in 1987 (Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Royal London Hospital, London University). Her core medical training was undertaken at the Royal London Hospital and Oldchurch Hospital Medical Rotation.
Her specialty training in Infectious Diseases, HIV medicine and Microbiology was at the Royal London Hospital, Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, Concord Hospital, Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney.
Dr Atkins was appointed to her current position in 2000. She has been particularly interested in Orthopaedic Infection since 1994.
She is one of six Bone Infection Unit (BIU) ward physicians, and one of four leads on the BIU research group (the latter has regular publications).
Dr Atkins is a regular speaker at national and local conferences and educational events on orthopaedic infection, both diagnostics and management.
